2022 Ford Lightning

There are many people out there who want to make the switch to the electric car market, but they don’t know how to start. Many car owners are even loyal to a specific company, like Ford, and don’t know where to look in the new electric industry.

Sales of electric vehicles, or EVs, topped over 2 million in 2019, and they are expected to continue rising sharply in years to come.

Well, if you were hesitating on making the switch because you need a truck, then you’re in luck. The time-tested, fan-favorite Ford F-150 has gone electric. Let’s talk about the new electric Ford truck.

What to Look For in Electric Vehicles

Whether you want an electric truck for environmental reasons, performance, or bragging rights, the all-electric 2021 F-150 has you covered.

Each of these issues proves to be a sufficient challenge to the overall EV market, but Ford has changed the game. Let’s do a quick dive into these before discussing the Ford F-150.

Price

Electric trucks may seem more expensive on paper, but that really isn’t the case. You get what you pay for in both performance and long-term costs.

For example, how much would you expect to pay to fill up your tank in a gas or diesel truck? You’re looking at between $50 and $80.

However, with an electric truck, the average cost to fill a battery is around $9 to reach a full charge, saving you a fortune in the long run.

The reason for the high upfront cost is mostly due to the price of the enormous batteries needed to keep the motor going. However, you really do save money in the long run. If you refuel 100 times a year, that’s a savings of well over $4,000.

Charging Time

Most of the newer EVs will allow for fast charging. However, this still takes time, sometimes more than an hour. Filling up your tank with gas is a very quick task that won’t add much time to your commute if you want to do it before work.

Luckily, if you don’t plan to go far in a day, your regular overnight charge should be sufficient to get you to and from work without ever having to stop and charge or fill up a tank. So in a way, that’s a win for EVs.

With regard to charging stations, things are looking up for EV owners! The average American lives 4 minutes from a gas station, but 29 minutes from the nearest charging station.

However, at least 115 million people currently live within 15 minutes of a charging station in the US.

New Electric Ford Truck: What You Need To Know

This truck really broke some new ground for the EV industry. Let’s run down the list of what you need to know about this revolutionary new truck.

Price

The price for the new Ford F-150 varies widely! In fact, the prices can even range between $29,000 and $75,000.

If you’re looking for a 4WD, 8-foot cab with all the specs and power of an F-150, you should be expecting to pay in the range of $50,000. However, as we mentioned before, the money you spend on an EV is saved at the pump! Prices will also vary depending on the specific F-150 you want.

Again, you get what you paid for. The extended fuel range with the added juice pack is definitely worth the money if you drive long distances!

Battery Life

Some will tell you that battery life is the most important part of an electric vehicle, and that’s probably true. It’s been one of the biggest struggles for electric vehicles, but Ford really changed the game!

They say that the battery on the new F-150 can power a house for 10 days when fully charged. Since we’re not doing that, how long will it last you on the road? Well, it’s actually pretty impressive.

Some smaller EVs can only go for 90 to 110 miles on a full charge. However, the standard battery on the new F-150 is said to go for up to 230 miles, close to the highest of any EV on the market, including small sedans! With the extended-range “juice pack,” it’s targeting to hit 300 miles, comparable to many gas-powered cars and trucks.

Charging Time

It will typically take 8-10 hours for a full charge with all the standard settings at home, which is perfect for overnight keeping. If you don’t drive more than 200 miles a day, this won’t be a problem for you.

However, there is good news for when you decide to go on a road trip!

With a fast-charge adaptor, you can get the battery from 15% to 80% in just over 40 minutes. Stop at a shopping center, have some fun, and fill it up!

Power

Electric absolutely does not mean less powerful. Electric vehicles can even be more powerful than combustion-engine vehicles. In the case of the electric F-150, you should expect between 250 and 430 horsepower depending on the specs you choose.

Features

You can choose between RWD, FWD, and 4WD in these trucks, along with cab size, and 2-door vs. 4-door. That’s up to you and your budget.

While features will depend on your preference and the exact F-150 you buy, customers praise the truck for its work-friendly features and excellent cabin technology.

The new Ford has become the first F-150 to get an independent rear suspension, which is necessary for packaging the rear motor. This translates directly to better riding and handling.

This new model has changed the electric truck market with a shockingly low price, great battery life, and power like the industry hasn’t seen yet.

Save The Planet, One Truck At A Time

It’s no secret that we need to move away from fossil fuels and into the more sustainable world of electric vehicles. The good news is that with vehicles like the new electric Ford truck, that’s never been easier.

You get what you pay for. Check out the truck for yourself and build a more sustainable future! Also, check out the comparison with last year’s Ford F-150 to see how it holds up.
